Demystifying Bone Tumors: Benign and Malignant – A Case Based Approach

Stacy Smith MD, FACR is the  Barbara N. Weissman, MD, Endowed Chair in Musculoskeletal Imaging and Intervention and Associate Vice Chair for Wellness, DEI, Faculty Affairs, and Chair of the Division of Musculoskeletal Imaging and Intervention for the past 15 years in the Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA.  She is the Director of the BWH Office of Women’s Careers, Co Chair of the International Skeletal Society DEI Committee, a former Figley Editorial fellow and Associate American Journal of Radiology (AJR) editor, and radiology residency and MSK/MR fellowship program director.  Dr. Smith completed her MD at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, followed by an Internal Medicine Internship and Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She served her Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship at the Armed Forced Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in the department of Radiologic Pathology as Calendar Binford Fellow and Junior Scientist. She then joined the University of Maryland Radiology Department faculty working for 10 years at that institution becoming an Associate Professor in Radiology before moving to Boston to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is an internationally recognized expert in Musculoskeletal Imaging as well as Wellness, Women’ s Affairs, DEI and Global Health (helping to initiate the first radiology residency in Rwanda and initiate the radiology physician volunteer program for the Indian Health Systems in the Navajo Nation, New Mexico, and initiating on the ground medical education and radiology for Rad Aid International at Bernard Mev Hospital, Port au Prince, Haiti). She speaks nationally and internationally on these topics at society meetings and institutions as an invited speaker. She is past president of the New England Roentgen Ray Society (NERRS), the oldest regional Radiology society in the United States, and was honored recently with the 2024 Brigham and Women’s Hospital Distinguished Clinician Award and Professionalism Award. She has devoted her career to medical education, leadership development programs, mentoring/recruitment, with research on advanced imaging techniques including DECT, MRI, and Ultrasound in MSK disorders.
