Dr. Kathryn Morton completed residencies in nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology at the University of Utah in 1987. From 1987 to 1995, she served as Chief of Nuclear Medicine Service at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center and was promoted to Associate Professor at the University of Utah in 1992. From 1995-2001, Dr. Morton served as Chief of the Imaging Service at the Portland, Oregon VA Medical Center. In 1998, she was promoted to the rank of Full Professor at Oregon Health Sciences University. In early 2001, Dr. Morton took a position as Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Director of Translational PET Research at Wake Forest University. In 2004, she returned to the University of Utah, where she achieved the rank of tenured Full Professor. Dr. Morton filled the role of Chief of Nuclear Medicine until her retirement from the University of Utah in 2022. She is now a staff radiologist at Summit Physician Specialists in Murray, Utah. Dr. Morton has been active in research throughout her career, having received many institutional, RSNA, VA and NIH grants as well many awards, including several Teacher of the Year awards from the residents. With a background in metallobiology and molecular biology, her most recent research focus was on understanding the molecular basis and imaging opportunities of sepsis-induced neuroinflammation.
